Your base

Pau is a city with plenty of hotels and apartments and good train links, so it has far more choice than the mountain villages. It is a stage town twice this week, so book the three nights together, as early as you can.

Day by day

  1. Wed 21 July 2027 · Tour de France, Stage 17: Muret → Pau

Arrive in Pau and watch the finish of Stage 17 from Muret. It is a flat stage, so expect a sprint.

  2. Thu 22 July 2027 · Tour de France, Stage 18: Pau → Col du Portet

The queen stage starts in Pau. Watch the start in the morning, or drive into the mountains early for the Tourmalet or the Col du Portet. You cannot do both: roads close well before the riders arrive.

  3. Fri 23 July 2027 · Tour de France, Stage 19: Hasparren → Laruns

Drive to Laruns, about 40 km south, for the finish of Stage 19, or walk up the Col de Marie Blanque to see the last climb. Leave early: the valley roads fill up on race day.

  4. Sat 24 July 2027 · Tour de France, Stage 20: Maubourguet → Libourne

Check out and watch Stage 20 start in Maubourguet, north-east of Pau, on your way home or on to Paris for the final day.

Getting around

A car is the easiest way to follow all three days. Pau has direct TGV trains from Paris and an airport. On race days, roads near the route close hours before the riders pass, so leave early and park well away from the route.

Host councils publish road closure times and park and ride plans in the months before the race. We add them here as they come out.
